The below is a note from Crush Fine Wines Managing Director, Matt Schmidt following the release of the 2015 On Premise report by Wine Business Solutions

Dear Valued Partner,

Crush Wines is a small family owned and operated business and I wanted to take the opportunity to send you a personal email to share some exciting news. I also want to thank you for believing in us and giving us the opportunity to form part of your supplier network. This is a privilege for us and we all genuinely appreciate the opportunity to work with you and look forward to strengthening our partnership.

As an on premise focused business, this week it was great to be specifically acknowledged by our industry in the 2015 Wine On-Premise Report released by Wine Business Solutions. I thought I’d take a moment to share some of it with you.

Crush was born just 5 years ago and our little business is now ranked in the Top 20 National and East Coast Distributors by Wine Menu Listings. One of the key points in the report is around the strength of our brands and the subsequent number of listings each of our brands holds, demonstrating their power and market relevance. Our total brand portfolio averaged a higher market penetration than companies like Bibendum, The Wine Company, Déjà vu and Cellarhand. This gives Crush 1% of all national listings which I think is pretty cool, given that we don’t think we’ve even hit our stride yet.

Crush also ranked as 11th for Victorian On Premise Distributors, one behind Mezzanine and above companies such as Sante, The Wine Company, Bibendun, Bacchus, Pernod Ricard and De Bortoli. Crush has increased its market share by 1.1% from the previous 12 months, with only five of the Top 20 increasing their share and of those Crush was the only company to more than double its growth. To quote the report “It is a whole new wave of distributors like Crush Fine Wines and Twelve Bottles that are eating the lunch of big companies”!

On a brand front our Canny and Seductive Mister Fox brand has taken out the coveted 5th spot in the Top 20 brands sold in Victoria – only .1% behind the juggernaut that is Chandon! Mister Fox ranked higher than brands including Moet & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, Brown Brothers, T’Gallant, Grant Burge, Dal Zotto, Cape Mentelle and Lindemans and Jacob’s Creek, all iconic wines.  As called out in the report “Mister Fox is a very successful pouring brand for Crush Fine Wines”. Yes, we think so too!

Thank you for your support, especially our customers and staff, who every day bring our wines to life. You’ve all played a key role in how our story unfolds and I sincerely thank you for that.

All the best, Matt (and the whole Crush team)

P.S. The report is great if anyone wants some bedtime reading, feel free to visit http://www.winebusinesssolutions.com.au/research . The report goes through the data for each state and wine type. Bring on the 2016 report when I am sure we will see Crush starting to feature as a strong player in both the QLD and NSW markets!
